Insurance Questions

Let Us Help Answer Your Insurance Questions

Dr. Capek specializes in cosmetic plastic surgery, which is not covered by insurance. Reconstructive surgery refers to procedures that improve or correct function in areas affected by aging, trauma, birth defects and lifestyle changes such as major weight loss.   Occasionally there are “gray areas” in plastic surgery that may be covered by your insurance carrier. These areas usually involve surgical operations which may be reconstructive or cosmetic, depending on each patient’s situation. For example, upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) – a procedure normally performed to achieve cosmetic improvement – may be covered by insurance if the eyelids are drooping severely and obscuring a patient’s vision. Other examples include an umbilical hernia found during a consultation for a tummy tuck or even a ruptured silicone breast implant that needs removal.

If you qualify for insurance coverage for one of these procedures, consider doing a cosmetic procedure at the same time. You could see a significant savings in operating room and anesthesia costs for the cosmetic portion of your procedure. For example, some of our patients having an upper lid blepharoplasty done for decreased visual fields decide to have a facelift performed at the same time. After your consultation we will gladly provide you with a detailed quote reflecting this potential savings.
