SmartLipo™ Triplex: Laser Lipoplasty
This innovative, new form of energy-assisted liposuction uses a minimally invasive technique that precisely reshapes your body in one treatment, getting rid of unwanted belly fat, love handles, muffin tops, and even jowls. SmartLipo uses a LASER probe, in combination with suction, to remove stubborn fat cells from practically any part of the body, including your arms, abdomen, thighs, calves, neck, and face. Dr. Capek performs this treatment for smaller areas in her office operating room under local anesthesia and light oral sedation.
SmartLipo uses a multiplexed wavelength LASER that produces excellent fat disruption, tissue tightening, and sculpting by coagulation. It also stimulates natural collagen production to tighten and firm your skin for a smoother appearance than traditional liposuction. Patients throughout the Capital District areas of Albany, Schenectady, Troy and Saratoga trust New York Plastic Surgeon Dr. Lucie Capek to perform their SmartLipo. Many of our patients also travel from New York City, Vermont, Massachusetts and beyond to receive her skilled and compassionate care.
Am I a good candidate for SmartLipo?
Dr. Capek will evaluate your medical history, current health and your aesthetic goals and expectations. If you are at a healthy, stable weight and have realistic expectations of SmartLipo procedure, you may be an excellent candidate. Here are some common reasons patients consider SmartLipo as their body contouring solution:
- You are physically fit at a stable and healthy weight but are unable to address persistent areas of localized fat deposits.
- You have only one or two small areas that need contouring i.e. back of your arms, inner thighs.
- You don’t have a lot of excess skin and your skin elasticity is reasonably good.
- You lead a very active lifestyle and want minimal downtime from any body contouring procedure.
Any form of liposuction should not be thought of as a weight loss solution, but rather as a body contouring procedure. SmartLipo will also not correct cellulite or significantly loose skin. Dr. Capek may recommend other procedures or a different surgery i.e. tummy tuck to address your concerns.
Before Your Procedure
You will have a private consultation with Dr. Capek before your procedure to address your cosmetic goals and determine if SmartLipo is the right treatment for you. She will evaluate your areas of concern and recommend a treatment plan to best achieve your desired, realistic results.
To prepare for SmartLipo, it is important to be in general good health. It’s necessary you quit smoking for at least six weeks before and after surgery since healing complications are much more likely in smokers. Also, avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications because it can lead to increased bleeding during surgery.
Dr. Capek performs SmartLipo in her office under local anesthesia and oral sedation. Prior to your procedure, you will take an antibiotic and light sedative at home and a friend or family member will bring you to the office.
Dr. Capek will numb your treatment area with a mix of saline and local anesthetic (tumescent solution). Using the SmartLipo Triplex laser, she will insert a small LASER probe into the fatty deposit through a tiny incision at the treatment site. The laser energy will melt and destroy fat cells, which are then gently suctioned out of the body with small cannulas. There is minimal impact to the surrounding healthy tissues and minimal bleeding. The laser probe is then re-inserted just deep to the skin for additional heating of tissues if tightening is needed in the area.
Because Dr. Capek performs this procedure in the office and you are awake, she recommends treating smaller areas in any one session, to ensure your comfort and safety.
After Your Procedure
After surgery, you will wear a compression garment comparable to Spanx body shapers for about 2-3 weeks, to minimize swelling and bruising. Expect to have moderate drainage from the treated area(s) for about 24 hours. You can shower and return to light activities the next day and you can begin more strenuous exercise after 10 days. The skin around the treatment site will be partially numb for several weeks or even months and you may feel some hard areas that gradually resolve as your swelling goes down. Massaging these can help soften them faster.
Some results may be seen after surgery, but any dramatic results continue to improve for up to 6 months. It’s important to maintain a healthy diet and exercise plan to maintain the excellent results you can expect from SmartLipo.
What are the risks?
SmartLipo is generally a very safe procedure and most patient have an uneventful recovery. As with any procedure, however, there is a possible risk of complications. These include infection at the treatment site, bleeding, lumpiness or irregular contour, scarring, skin discoloration, and burns to the skin. In Dr. Capek’s experience, complications are rare and patients are usually highly satisfied with the long-lasting results.
