Bio-Stimulation: The Plasma Facial

Schedule

You may have heard of using your own blood components, including growth factors, as another natural treatment to combat aging. This treatment option has been popular since Kim Kardashian announced her own preference for this nonsurgical rejuvenation option. We’ve been offering this procedure for several years and it is an excellent method to rejuvenate your skin!

What is Bio-Stimulation with Plasma?

A Plasma Facial uses your own plasma, a component of your blood, that contains powerful platelet cells and growth factors to stimulate collagen production and reverse aging changes in your skin through bio-stimulation. This is the process of harnessing your body’s own ability to heal and repair. The result is an anti-aging treatment for your skin that helps reduce wrinkles and and scars, brightens and tones, to decrease the visible signs of aging by growing new, healthy tissue.

The new tissue stimulation includes collagen and elastin growth for firmness and elasticity, added volume for smoothness, and more blood flow for oxygen delivery to the skin.

About Your Procedure

Before your Plasma Facial, blood is drawn from your arm, cleaned, and then spun in a centrifuge to separate the plasma from the red blood cells. We spin the plasma a second time to concentrate the cells called platelets, and their associated growth factors. This ‘liquid gold’ is then either applied directly on the skin with a micro-needling treatment, or injected under the skin into scars, wrinkles or crepy areas of skin, such as the lower eyelids. We’ll determine the best option for you at your consultation. This treatment is most often used on the face, neck, décolletage, and hands to improve and rejuvenate skin and/or minimize the appearance of scars and requires a series of treatments for optimal results.

How Does it Work?

The number of treatments needed and the type of treatment varies for each patient. The Plasma Facial applied with micro-needling is usually done is a series of 3 or 6 treatments at 4 week intervals, depending on the condition we are treating. For example, if you are younger and looking for better skin texture and rejuvenation, then 3 treatments initially may be enough. If you have deeper wrinkles or acne scars, then we will recommend a 6-treatment package. For most patients, maintenance with 1-2 micro-needling treatments per year is beneficial.

In addition, we may suggest injecting deeper wrinkles or scars directly. We repeat the injections at 4-week intervals until the desired result is achieved. With plasma injections in particular, some results may be visible immediately at the time of treatment. Then, there is usually a return to baseline in 3-5 days as the plasma is absorbed back into the body prior to the complete activation of the biostimulating process. With both topical and injected plasma, most patients see ongoing improvement for up to 12 weeks after the last treatment, with results lasting up to 2 years. Individual results vary.

What Are the Risks?

A Plasma Facial is considered to be a safe, natural treatment because it uses cells and growth factors from your own blood, which cannot be rejected. It is being used in many areas of medicine, including Orthopedic injuries, to help the body heal itself with good success and few side effects. Minor issues, such as bruising and swelling may occur. More serious side effects are rare and will be further reviewed at your consultation.

EXOSOMES: The Future of Skin Rejuvenation

Are you someone who watches beauty trends? Then you’ve probably heard of Exosomes, the nano-sized particles derived from living cells, that promise to be the Holy Grail of skin and hair rejuvenation. Read on and check out the links to numerous beauty magazine articles below, highlighting what’s on the horizon.

Exosomes are nano-size vesicles, little packets that come from living cells, and contain various components, such as peptides, lipids and amino acids. They act like messengers between cells signaling unhealthy or aging cells to do what they are supposed to do, such as build collagen and elastin. Preliminary results show great promise in rejuvenating skin, improving texture, thickness, and quality.

Exosomes are being studied for many treatments, including serious health conditions. There are many clinics in the USA that already offer them in treatments with promising results. We are currently not offering them routinely but remain excited about their potential. Stay tuned!
