What is SkinPen?
SkinPen® is a non-surgical, cosmetic micro-needling device used to improve the appearance of skin by rejuvenating aging skin and reducing acne scars. SkinPen® can be used on multiple parts of the body such as face, neck and décolletage. With little downtime, this treatment is an excellent alternative for those seeking a facial rejuvenation with a non-surgical approach and lasting results.
How SkinPen Works
SkinPen® is a microneedling device with 12 tiny surgical-grade needles that creates “micro” punctures to the skin. By making small injuries to the skin, SkinPen® stimulates your body’s own natural collagen and elastin production for a more youthful appearance.
Prior to the procedure, a topical anesthetic will be applied to the skin for a relatively pain-free experience. The procedure typically takes 30 minutes and most patients receive a series of 3 – 6 procedures about 4 weeks apart. Results are gradual over time, as your body produces more collagen and elastin, providing naturally smoother and fuller results.

Am I a good candidate for SkinPen?
SkinPen® can be used on all skin types and skin colors. If you are looking for a non-surgical way to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, build collagen or rid of acne scars, you may benefit from SkinPen®. With a quick procedure and little recovery downtime, it is ideal for a busy lifestyle and versatile to match each individual’s unique cosmetic needs. Note that this procedure will not work well if you are a smoker because smoking will prevent robust collagen growth.
What is the Treatment and Recovery?
The first day following treatment, patients generally experience redness and irritation on the treated area that feels similar to a sunburn. The second day, your skin will most likely be pink with little irritation, but you are able to continue with normal makeup and daily activities. For up to three to six months, you will continue to see changes in your skin as new collagen begins to grow. If you feel as though your symptoms have been prolonged or extreme, please contact our office right away.
Serious risk such as scarring, infection or prolonged discoloration are very rare when this procedure is performed by our licensed, experienced providers.
