Sculptra® Aesthetic
If you’ve been having good results with dermal fillers, but wished they lasted longer between touch-up injections or you’re starting to have concerns about loose skin or volume loss, Sculptra might be an upgrade you can consider for your cosmetic treatments.
What is Sculptra?
Initially approved by the FDA in 2004, Sculptra is an injectable collagen stimulator that is used to add volume to the face, achieving a more youthful and healthier appearance. Unlike hyaluronic acid fillers, the gel does not physically fill in facial volume and wrinkles, but rather it harnesses the power of your own body to produce collagen, stimulating re-growth of your own tissue to add fullness and firmness to your face.
Sculptra is a powder form of poly-L-lactic acid, the same molecule that makes up commonly-used, dissolvable sutures that have been used in millions of procedures worldwide. It is reconstituted with sterile water and then injected into the subcutaneous tissues of facial areas such as the temples, brows, cheeks, and jawline, where it creates a kind of scaffold for that signals your body to increase collagen production and other rejuvenating processes.
What to Expect from Sculptra Injections
After scheduling a time for your specific Sculptra treatment, your provider will begin by applying numbing cream to your face. Dr. Capek marks out the areas that need volume and completes the treatment in about 20 minutes.
Discomfort and downtime after Sculptra treatments are minimal. After a day or two of mild swelling and occasional bruising around the injection site(s), you’ll look like your previous self. This is because the improvement with Sculptra occurs gradually over several months as your collagen is replenished.
At least 2-3 treatments are required for most people to obtain an optimal youthful appearance and these are done about 4-6 weeks apart.
Results of Sculptra Aesthetic
Because the benefits are largely produced by your own skin tissue, Sculptra has the potential to be a long-lasting correction – some patients cite at least 2 years of enjoying a more youthful appearance. Results may last longer than this. As always, individual results vary by patient.
