7 Essential Steps to Prepare for Your Facelift
by Dr. Lucie Capek, Board-Certified New York-Based Plastic Surgeon
A facelift is the “gold standard” to effectively and dramatically restore your youthful appearance. It is one of the most frequent surgeries I perform in my practice. Planning for facelift surgery involves preparation and planning to ensure a smooth and successful procedure and recovery. Here are seven important steps to follow before your procedure.
Maintain a healthy lifestyle leading up to your facial rejuvenation surgery by eating a balanced diet, staying hydrated, getting regular exercise, and managing stress levels. Good overall health can promote optimal healing and recovery outcomes.
Smoking and using nicotine products seriously impairs the healing process and increases the risk of numerous complications. If you smoke, you will need to stop and avoid ALL nicotine products for at least 6 weeks prior to, and after your surgery.
My team and I will provide detailed preoperative instructions, which include guidelines on fasting before surgery, dietary, medication and supplement recommendations, and a specific skincare routine to prepare your face for surgery. We’ll also send prescriptions to your pharmacy well in advance, so please pick them up.
Whether your facelift is performed at our QuadA accredited surgical suite, Capek Surgical Arts or at the hospital, you will need to plan for transportation to and from the surgical facility, as well as provide support during the initial recovery period. Our Patient Care Coordinator will work with you to make sure arrangements are made.
Schedule time off work and arrange for help with household chores, childcare, or other responsibilities during the initial recovery period. You’ll need adequate time to rest and allow your face to heal properly.
We give you all the information you’ll need well in advance of your surgery. Please make sure to read it carefully so you can use your pre-operative appointment to address any last-minute concerns or questions you may have. We want you to feel confident heading into your surgery.
Think positive thoughts the day of your surgery and try to relax. We will take great care of you! Wear loose, comfortable clothing and prepare your face and skin as directed. Don’t wear makeup or jewelry.
My staff and I are dedicated to caring for you safely and comfortably while providing excellent results! Learn more about the pre- and post-care by contacting our office for a consultation.
