BOTOX® Cosmetic

Try the wrinkle-reducing treatment people have been enjoying for decades with quick, painless Botox injections under the supervision of our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Lucie Capek. From reducing excessive sweating to dampening the effect of certain facial muscles, Botox has been approved by the FDA for numerous medical conditions and cosmetic treatments that we’re happy to provide.

What is Botox Cosmetic?

The cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often simply called Botox, is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces and eliminates frown lines, forehead creases, crow’s feet near the eyes, and thick bands of muscle in the neck. The toxin blocks nerve impulses, temporarily and subtly paralyzing the muscles that cause facial wrinkles when making certain expressions, giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance. Studies have also shown that Botox is effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms in the neck and eyes.

Patients throughout the Capital District areas of Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and Saratoga trust board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Lucie Capek to perform their Botox cosmetic treatment whether for wrinkles, sweating, or headaches. Many of our patients also travel from New York City, Vermont, Massachusetts, and beyond to receive her skilled and compassionate care.

Who is a Good Candidate for Botox?

Botox treatments are recommended for the following types of wrinkles that become noticeable between the ages of 18 and 65:

  • Frown lines (between the eyebrows)
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Crow’s feet
  • Smile lines

There are many more possible benefits of Botox in the right patients. Feel free to call Dr. Capek to learn more about the treatments that might help you look and live better with a simple Botox injection.

Results and Recovery After Botox Injections

The treatment experience for Botox is simple, quick, and painless. We use an ultrafine needle to inject the formula directly into the facial muscles that are causing the wrinkles as they move, up to about 20 minor sites depending on your concerns.

The most common side effects after the procedure include pinpoint swelling or bruising at the injection sites, bleeding, redness, and sensitivity. Our doctor will likely recommend you avoid excessive sun exposure for at least 24 hours following botulinum toxin injection, and instruct you not to rub the treated area aggressively for about the same time period.

Botox Cosmetic is not recommended if a patient has an infection in the injection site(s) and/or has a known hypersensitivity to any botulinum toxin formula or to any of the components in the formulation. Do not undergo Botox treatment if you are allergic to any of the ingredients or if you have experienced an allergic reaction to another product containing botulinum toxin. Ask your plastic surgeon about the possible side effects of Botox.
