“Brazilian” Buttock Lift

A Brazilian butt lift focuses on reshaping and lifting your buttocks for an enhanced and shapelier figure. This particular cosmetic surgery has become very popular in the past ten years since full, voluptuous buttocks can make a huge difference to your confidence and appearance. During a Brazilian butt lift, Dr. Capek utilizes your own fat cells to improve the fullness and shape of your buttocks, which also improves the contour of your “donor sites.” You can enjoy your Brazilian butt lift results up to several years, although individual results vary. Patients throughout the Capital District areas of Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and Saratoga trust New York Plastic Surgeon Dr. Lucie Capek to perform their Brazilian buttock lift surgery. Many of our patients also travel from New York City, Vermont, Massachusetts, and beyond to receive her skilled and compassionate care.

Am I a Good Candidate?

If you are in general good health and have positive, realistic expectations for your procedure, you are most likely a good candidate. Other common reasons why you may consider a Brazilian butt lift include:

  • Your buttocks are too small compared to the rest of your body, and you desire a more balanced appearance.
  • Aging or weight loss has made your buttocks sag, loose, or flat.
  • Clothes do not fit appropriately on your figure.
  • You desire more curves and the size or shape of your buttocks makes you feel self-conscious.

Before Your Procedure

During your initial consultation with Dr. Capek, you will have a chance to discuss what you wish to achieve with a Brazilian butt lift procedure. After reviewing your medical history, physical anatomy, and your desired changes, Dr. Capek will suggest particular procedure techniques that will be most beneficial to you. She will also discuss the alternatives, risks, and results of your procedure and pre-operative instructions that are critical to follow.

Before your surgery, you should quit smoking, at least, six weeks before your surgery to ensure proper healing and a successful autologous transfer. It is also important to avoid aspirin or anti-inflammatory medication since this can increase bleeding. You may need to increase your diet to ensure you have enough excess body fat. As always, it is necessary to follow your cosmetic surgeon’s pre-operative guidelines to guarantee optimal results.

Your Procedure

A Brazilian butt lift is typically performed under local anesthetic with sedation on an outpatient basis. The most popular method at our practice is an autologous fat transfer, which utilizes your own natural fatty tissue from ‘donor sites’ to enhance the shape and size of your buttocks. During this procedure, Dr. Capek will perform a gentler form of liposuction with cannulas to remove fat cells from stubborn areas of your body, such as your hips, abdomen, back, or thighs. Contouring these donor sites can improve your overall result since this can further enhance the prominence of your buttock.

The fat is then purified and concentrated to be injected into the buttocks. Dr. Capek grafts the fat in layers at multiple levels to ensure a smooth and stable deposit of fat tissue is left and held by your body’s natural take-in. Although you may have small liposuction incisions from your donor site(s) and in the buttock, the autologous fat transfer will result in minimal scarring and downtime compared to traditional methods of buttocks enhancement.

After Your Procedure

After Dr. Capek completes your procedure, you will be taken to a recovery area to be monitored. You will have drains in place to reduce the risk of infections. You will return home after a short monitoring period, which Dr. Capek will approve. Immediately after your surgery, you can expect to wear a compression garment to keep your buttock area compressed, usually for a few weeks. You may expect some pain and discomfort, but this can generally be alleviated with prescribed pain medications.

It is critically necessary to follow Dr. Capek’s post-operative instructions, which include how to care for your drains, wearing compression garments, taking antibiotics, and certain activity that is safe during your recovery period. It is important to remember recovery times vary from patient to patient.

The recovery period is relatively longer in the buttock because it is used for almost any activity, such as standing, walking, or running. After the first day, you’ll be able to get up and walk around. It is also important to lay on your stomach or put as little pressure on your buttocks for the first two weeks. It is important to avoid sitting for the first ten days (except for going to the bathroom). You can expect some bruising and swelling during recovery, which usually heals within two weeks. Generally, patients can return to work or drive ten to fourteen days after surgery. After about eight weeks you can enjoy regular activities and exercise. Follow-up appointments will be scheduled with Dr. Capek to ensure you are healing properly.

Under most circumstances, a Brazilian butt lift has long-lasting results. After fat transfer, the fat that remains will stay there, similar to natural fatty tissue in your body. It is important to live a healthy lifestyle, including diet and exercise, to maintain these results.

What are the risks?

Although complications from a Brazilian butt lift are rare, every surgical procedure carries some risk. Some potential complications of all surgeries include an adverse reaction to anesthesia, infection, bleeding, and sensation alteration in the buttock. More specifically for autologous fat transfer, fat absorption may carry some complications. Fat intake may be as much as 40 percent and has a possibility to produce asymmetry. This procedure is harder to predict and may require additional fat grafting sessions to achieve your desired results. However, under the care of Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Capek, any complications can be reduced by following her advice and instructions before and after surgery.
