Juvéderm® XC

As we age, our skin loses moisture and elasticity, which can lead to unwanted parentheses lines and wrinkles around the mouth and nose. Juvéderm® XC is the first and only FDA-approved filler that smooths wrinkles around the nose and mouth in patients 18 years or older for up to one year. Made up of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the body, Juvéderm® XC works to bring water to the surface of the skin, resulting in a youthful, healthy skin appearance.  This is a great non-surgical alternative for patients who want a younger, replenished appearance without undergoing invasive surgery. Dr. Capek uses this filler to provide only natural-looking results that stay true to your personal look.

How Juvéderm® XC Works

Juvéderm XC is manufactured using Hylacross™ technology to make a modified form of hyaluronic acid (HA), a natural substance found in healthy skin. As we age, the skin loses HA, which causes it to lose volume and shape, leading to the formation of wrinkles.

During your treatment, Juvéderm is injected into the target area(s) using a fine needle, instantly resulting in smoother, healthier looking skin. Although there may be some discomfort during and after the injection, Juvéderm XC includes lidocaine, a type of anesthetic, for a more comfortable experience. The injection process is performed in a relatively short office visit, but some patients require touch-up and repeat doses to maintain optimal results.

This dermal filler can last up to one year, though each individual’s age and genetic makeup can modify the length of results. When treated again after one year, patients often need less product to achieve optimal results. If a patient were to stop treatments, their appearance would simply return to its original condition.

Is Juvéderm® XC right for me?

You should not use this product if you have any allergies to lidocaine, proteins that make up hyaluronic acid, or you have a history of severe allergic reactions. Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding should inform Dr. Capek of their condition as well. During a short consultation, we can help determine whether Juvéderm® XC is right for you. What are the Risks?

Most side effects of Juvéderm XC are mild and generally heal on their own within a week. Common side effects can include redness, pain, swelling, firmness, itching, bruising, and discoloration at the injection site. Like other injection treatments, there is also a risk of infection. However, receiving Juvéderm from our professionals and following their aftercare instructions can greatly reduce this risk. Because Juvéderm® XC is made up of hyaluronic acid, there is an extremely low risk of allergy.

Patients throughout the Capital District areas of Albany, Schenectady, Troy and Saratoga trust Dr. Capek’s experienced Medical Aestheticians to perform their Juvederm injections.
